Environmental history

CSU Historian Mark Fiege’s focus is on environmental history, a field which seeks to analyze past interactions between people and nature, including water. He teaches courses in American environmental history and the history of the American West. Among other projects, he has investigated the environmental history of irrigated agriculture in Idaho, and his research also encompasses historic water use in Colorado and other western American places.

Public Lands History Center

Founded in 2007, the Public Lands History Center at Colorado State produces historical knowledge that helps resource managers, scientists, and citizens understand and protect public lands and resources. The PLHC’s projects facilitate the development policy on complex issues relating to the environment, land and water used, agriculture, and cultural resource management.
